Our Designs
Sustainability is key....
Many things are considered when designing a new piece, the first and foremost consideration is how can we make the most of the timber we have available to us. When using Reclaimed or Rescued timber, choosing the cuts you want is often not an option, you basically take what you can get. With this is mind, we choose to base our designs around the timber profiles we have in stock and what is readily available, this in turn minimises timber waste and reduces production costs.
Secondly we consider the structure of the timber, that is, how can it be used in a design, is it light-weight, is it strong, is it easy to work with.
Then we think about how its features can be best used or showcased in a design. These features include timber tones, knots and grains, old nail holes, exposed bark and other discrepancies.
We also take inspiration from design eras, not concentrating on any one but sometimes taking inspiration from multiple eras, whether it be Edwardian, Mid-Century or the Retro Era. And we think about environments, how will a design sit in modern room settings, how will it function.
Finally, we think about how we can add our own touches, things that signify a Kcimory piece, should it be subtle or very noticeable or should we just let the construction speak for itself.
